![]() Not concerned enough not to turn up on the opening day, obviously. The first John Wick prototype barely lasts eighty minutes, and that brevity and focus is a big part of the appeal much as I’m currently looking forward to the fourth installment, due out later this week, I’m a bit concerned by a 169 minute run time in a series that has shown some signs of bloating already. Would Rick and Morty having power battle armor be a parody of Iron Man? Is the idea of the Council of Ricks a throw back to Deadpool teaming up with alternate versions of himself to form a team? Villains in Batman during origin stories often equate him to a monster with mythical properties, is that John Wick as well? I personally just find the reasoning weak when compared to how they have shown they handle parody. As with the Terminator films, the sequel to John Wick faced a specific challenge how to expand the universe of the first film while staying true to the stripped down ethos that was the original signature. It seems like people are really reaching here when barely a single bit of it would seem like a parody at all. Other assassins were used sure but always dignified ones. At no point in John Wick is a prisoner released to hunt him down. These thugs actually think him to be a monster which makes sense considering it was a hyper intelligent sentient pickle with a biosuit of rat parts going on a killing spree. In John Wick they don't actually think him to be a monster, just an amazing assassin. People point out the Solenya bit as their reasoning, but I find it to be more in tune with their callbacks to other stuff, like Randall being in the beat down of the X Gonna Give It To Ya compilation. Their Jurassic Park one had lines ripped straight from the movie but replacing Jurassic with Anatomy. ![]() They straight up say "like the movie Purge! It's a purge planet" and in their Mad Max one Summer's outfit is straight up the same as Whitney Houston's from the franchise. The thing is though they haven't been subtle about it, their parodies are in your face. Even their theme song was created to fit with Gravity Falls' opening sequence. They've done The Purge and Mad Max, they've paid homages to other directors and shows. The show is no stranger to parodies for sure. Keep it to 2 posts in a 24 hour period.īreak the cycle.
